Wheatus Brings Their 25th Anniversary Tour to Wonder Bar

American rockers Wheatus brought their 25th Anniversary Tour to Wonder Bar in Asbury Park this past weekend. It’s hard to believe (or maybe it’s just me not wanting to admit I’m getting old) that Wheatus debuted 25 years ago and introduced us to one of the more memorable songs from the early aughts. After a solid set from Pittsburgh rockers Punchline, the band treated the sold out crowd by playing the album in its entirety. Lead singer Brendan B. Brown did a great job entertaining the crowd between songs, even taking requests throughout the set.

Some of the standouts for me from the night included “Love Is a Mutt From Hell”, “Punk Ass Bitch/Jackie Chan”, and their covers of Erasure’s “A Little Respect” and “Growing on Me” by The Darkness. And of course, Wheatus ended the night with their iconic hit “Teenage Dirtbag”. This song never ceases to put a smile on my face, and watching the crowd sing along with every word, especially when Brown let them take over the chorus before his famous falsetto solo, was one of my favorite live music moments of this year.

Wheatus’ tour runs through the end of April and I highly recommend seeing them when they stop in your area. But don’t sleep on getting tickets since they are going fast! And as always, check out both of these bands wherever you stream your music.

Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos.
