+LIVE+ and Stone Temple Pilots Bring The Jubilee Tour to New Jersey

Thirty years is a long time. I still remember picking up both +LIVE+’s Throwing Copper and Stone Temple PilotsPurple at my local Sam Goody shortly after they came out back in 1994. And both are albums I still listen to today. So needless to say I was excited when the bands announced The Jubilee Tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of these classic 90s albums. I had a chance to cover their show at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, and while both bands have had significant turnover since those albums debuted, the current lineups sounded great and gave the crowd of diehard fans their money’s worth that night.

Ed Kowalczyk, the only remaining member of the original lineup, sounded as good as he did when I first saw +LIVE+ in 1995. They played most of Throwing Copper and closed the night with two of the biggest hits from that album, “I Alone” and “Lightning Crashes”. STP rocked Purple in its entirety as the Jersey faithful welcomed home native sons Robert and Dean DeLeo. Current singer Jeff Gutt did a solid job filling some big shoes, and the band closed the night with a few of it’s biggest hits. An added treat was having Soul Asylum open the night.

The Jubilee Tour wraps up in Indianapolis this weekend.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos. Michael is also a regular vendor at the Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market and can be found selling his prints at a variety of local markets.
