Jane’s Addiction Rocks the Hard Rock in Atlantic City

If you were shaped by the alternative and grunge rock scene of the 1990s like I was, it would be hard to not be excited for this year’s Jane’s Addiction tour featuring the original lineup. Making the hour and half drive to cover the godfathers of the alternative rock scene was a no brainer. And they did not disappoint. Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City was a great venue to see them, and they treated the packed house of faithful fans to possibly one of the best shows from this tour. Highlights for me were “Jane Says”, “Mountain Song”, “Three Days”, and “Ocean Size”.

The band sounded great and it was amazing to see Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Eric Avery work their magic live. Lead singer Perry Farrell also gave what I felt was a solid performance that night. The crowd did not seem disappointed, and I know I walked away happy that I finally got to see them in concert. Unfortunately a tumultuous week followed this show, and the rest of tour was cancelled as the band decided to take a break. Hopefully this is not the end of Jane’s Addiction, but if it is, I feel lucky to have been able to see them.

The tour also featured two bands from the U.K. that I was seeing for the first time live. Love and Rockets, who came to fame in the late 1980s, gave a solid performance of their underground rock and pop sound. Crawlers, who’s song “Come Over (Again)” went viral in 2021, kicked off the night with a high-energy set of good, loud rock music. I recommend checking both bands out wherever you stream your music.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos. Michael is also a regular vendor at the Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market and can be found selling his prints at a variety of local markets.
