They (just) Might Be Giants
They Might Be Giants - KIngs Theatre December 13, 2024
My point is - If two guys came to your house to install cable, it would be John Flansburgh and John Linnell from They Might Be Giants. But they know how to write and play music. If they came to my house, I’d want to talk about the effects of Postmodernism on the Brooklyn arts community during the 1980s. Then we’d laugh at how much I think John Linnell sounds like Phil Ochs. Lastly, I’d tell them that their backing band was fantastic.
I’ve been listening to TMBGs since the Village Voice days. They are a favorite band of my dear friend Tracey. They launched an entire generation of undergraduate songwriters, finding inspiration in their salt and pepper shakers and assorted cutlery.
The Kings Theatre is a great place to see a show. I do wish, however, that their bathrooms were on the main floor.
Here, have some photos…

Born from an existential argument between Modernists and Postmodernists, I have found my home with the post-punks and those who love a good slice of pizza. I live in a world of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and the ever-elusive Decisive Moment. Punctum and Studium aside, I like to take photographs of people and things to see how they look photographed. While I miss both CBGBs and a cool place to bowl in Asbury Park, Punk is still whatever we made it to be. The Future is Unwritten, and I owe it all to Mr. Bradley and Mr. Martin. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (and Women) and ask the Little Prince for his thoughts. Sometimes, I'm On the Road, but if it weren’t for the honor of the thing, I’d just as well walk. My loving wife supports this albatross of an obsession, and my kids put up with me well. BA, MFA, M.Ed., BCEA, Nikon, FUJI, Tri-X.
