ROCK AND ROLL ROYALTY COMES TO LIFE AT THE STONE PONY

With summer winding down, two awesome tribute bands kicked off Labor Day Weekend in Asbury Park. A raucous crowd showed up to The Stone Pony Summer Stage ready for a night of great classic rock songs and were not disappointed.

Lez Zeppelin, and all-female tribute act from New York, started the night off with an incendiary set of Led Zeppelin hits. Lead singer Marlain Angelides’ fiery energy captured the crowd and Steph Paynes channeled Jimmy Page with her guitar play. Paynes would even bring out a Theremin for “Whole Lotta Love”.

The rest of the night belonged to Almost Queen. The popular tribute act transports you back in time so you feel like you are actually at a Queen show. Joseph Russo was spot on as Freddie Mercury in both mannerisms and vocals. And Steve Leonard was phenomenal as Brian May. As the full moon rose over the ocean, the crowd was treated to a set of Queen’s biggest and best songs. Not a bad way to close out the summer.

Both bands continue to tour through the end of the year. Lez Zeppelin returns to New Jersey September 29th at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos.
