Gary Clark Jr. stormed the stage of The Met in Philadelphia, sending shockwaves of energy throughout the audience. The multi-Grammy award winner is on an extensive tour of North America in support of his critically acclaimed new album, JPEG RAW.

Though rooted in Texas blues, he has expanded his vision beyond it. Gary Clark Jr.’s music and songs are inspirations of blues, funk, hip-hop, rock, and R&B. This eclectic mixture of moods sets his work into a truly unique category of sound.

Gary Clark Jr. came out firing with “Maktub,” the opening track on JPEG RAW. Its gritty guitar riffs and rock power immediately got the packed house on their feet, cheering to its infectious rhythm. Half his setlist consisted of songs from JPEG RAW, and his fans instantly fell in love with each one, hearing them for the first time in a live setting.

“Amazing” is an understatement when it comes to Gary Clark Jr.’s skills. His slide guitar techniques, use of pedals, and intricate solos will make your jaw drop. But it’s not just about his technical skills. He plays with raw intensity and a wide array of emotions, from the blistering fury of “Bright Lights” with powerful guitar riffs to the smooth strumming in “This Is Who We Are.”

Gary Clark Jr.’s voice perfectly complements his guitar skills. His soulful voice effortlessly switches from soft melodic vocals to a hard, raw, and extremely passionate edge.

Steve Cerf

My name is Steve Cerf and concert photography is my passion. I got into concert photography after seeing a young Freddy Mercury mesmerize his audience at the Philadelphia Civic Center back in 1977. Since then, I have photographed countless live performances of all kinds. Located in Philadelphia, my ability to experience the show and a performer’s essence and “sweat” is what I incorporate into my images.
