Des Rocs Electrifies the Jersey Shore

A few weeks ago, I had no idea who Des Rocs was when asked if I could cover his upcoming show at Asbury Lanes. That same afternoon I just happened to catch one of his songs on Octane during my drive home and knew that I had to say “yes”. And wow, did he deliver more than I expected.

Des Rocs, aka Danny Rocco, captivated the audience from the jump. Rocco, along with bassist Eric Mendelsohn and drummer William Tully, treated the crowd to a night of old school rock and roll. His infectious rock star energy had fans singing along to every word, and his guitar work was electric. According to one new fan, “Once he hit the stage, it was hard to take my eyes off him!”

The show opener was Staten Island-based hardcore band Jigsaw Youth. The all-female trio played a raucous set which included an impressive cover of “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)” from the Deftones. Their latest single “Love Sick” dropped earlier this year.

Check out Des Rocs’ latest album, Dream Machine, which includes “I Am the Lightning” and “Never Ending Moment”. He has a handful of U.S. dates late this summer before embarking on a European tour in September.

Oh…and if I have a chance to see him again, my answer will definitely be “hell yes!”

Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos.
