Bernie Williams Is Bringing His Band of Friends to The Stone Pony
Bronx Bombers and music fans take notice…beloved Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams will be playing at the legendary Stone Pony on March 27! Besides patrolling centerfield for the Yankees during their dominant run in the late 1990s/early 2000s, Williams is also a classically trained guitarist who will be bringing his band of friends to the Jersey Shore for an eclectic night of music.
Known for his fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of his Latin heritage, Williams has released two albums to date. His debut The Journey Within came out in 2003, reaching #3 on Billboard’s “Contemporary Jazz Chart.” He followed that up with Moving Forward in 2009 which featured guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada and Dave Koz. That album spawned two Billboard #1 singles and was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2009.
Doors open at 6 pm and there will be a Q&A session with Williams before the music starts hosted by Nick Corasaniti, author of I Don't Want to Go Home: The Oral History of The Stone Pony. Joining Williams on stage Thursday night will be Dan Orlando (vocals/keys), Carl Fischer (trumpet player from the Billy Joel Band), Joe Piteo (drums), Kip Sophos (bass) and Erik Piza (percussion). And don’t fret Yankees fans, Thursday’s game starts at 3 pm so you will have plenty of time to head to Asbury Park and cap off opening day with a great night of music.
Tickets are still available. Hope to see you there!
