Take a summer road trip with Train, REO Speedwagon, and Yacht Rock Review

On July 26, Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, Camden, New Jersey, hosted the Summer Road Trip 2024 triple-header that had rock fans buzzing from start to finish. The evening kicked off with Yacht Rock Review, a not-so-guilty, guilty pleasure throwback band from Georgia. As they took the stage, the crowd of all ages was immediately transported to a retro paradise filled with smooth sailing and nostalgic vibes. Known for their impeccable renditions of 70s and 80s hits, Yacht Rock Revue had the audience grooving to timeless love songs and classic anthems. The captain’s hat-wearing “anchorheads” added to the lively, fun-filled atmosphere. Whether you’re a seasoned fan or a newcomer, Yacht Rock Revue’s performance was a party to be remembered.

Next up was the legendary REO Speedwagon, the iconic American rock band that has been together since 1967. The current lineup consists of Kevin Cronin, lead vocals, guitar, piano, and keys; Dave Amato, lead guitar and vocals; Bryan Hitt, drums and percussion; Derek Hilland, backing vocals and all sorts of keyboards; and Matt Bissonnette, on bass, fresh off a tour with Elton John.

The band started the night with their 1981 hit, “Don’t Let Him Go.” Their set was a powerhouse of hits from their classic repertoire, showcasing why they remain stalwarts in the rock scene. REO Speedwagon set the stage ablaze with a dozen more fan favorites.

The night’s grand finale belonged to Train, who delivered an unforgettable performance with a whopping hit-filled set. Pat Monahan’s engaging stage presence shone as he caught phones from the crowd to snap photos and toss them back during “Get To Me.” - which had me ducking and smiling while trying to get the perfect picture of Pat simultaneously. A highlight was Pat Monahan’s rendition of “Calling All Angels,” which set off a vibrant confetti shower as the audience sang along. The fun continued with “Save Me, San Francisco,” as beach balls of all sizes soared through the air, and Monahan showcased his athleticism by tossing t-shirts to the crowd during “All American Girl.”

This was one great show for a summer evening, blending nostalgic tunes, high-energy performances, and interactive fun. From Yacht Rock Revue’s smooth vibes to REO Speedwagon’s classic rock intensity and Train’s spectacular hit-fest, Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, Camden, New Jersey, the night was a rock fan’s dream come true.
