Surfing for Daisy Celebrates Record Release at Wonder Bar

Asbury Park’s own Surfing for Daisy celebrated the release of their self-titled debut album last weekend at Wonder Bar. The first time I saw the alt folk rockers was last year’s What a Wonderful Year. They were one of the standouts of night 1, and I’d been looking forward to seeing a full show from them ever since. The sold out crowd was treated to an amazing performance which included them playing the album in its entirety. It’s been less than two years since they dropped their first single, and the sky could be the limit for this talented group of musicians. They have shows lined up outside Jersey in April and May, and I definitely recommend seeing them when they’re in your area. Until then, go listen to the excellent Surfing for Daisy.

The night included two additional local bands I was seeing for the first time. BACKHOUSE, a five-piece indie rock band from the Jersey Shore, opened the night with a solid set of their “melodic and hook driven” songs. Long Branch’s own Via Ripa followed with a great set of their “genre-bending, face-melting, dance inducing surf rock” sound. Keep an eye out for their next gigs too.

And as always, check out all of these talented bands where you stream your music.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos. Michael is also a regular vendor at the Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market and can be found selling his prints at a variety of local markets.
