FLOGGING MOLLY BRINGS NIGHT OF DRUNKEN LULLABIES AND PUNK ROCK TO WELLMONT THEATER

It may have been cold outside, but Flogging Molly turned The Wellmont Theater into the devil’s dance floor for their first New Jersey stop of 2023. Dave King and crew blended their Celtic-punk classics with songs from their latest album, Anthem. The energy in the room was high from the jump with "The Likes of You Again" and lasted through the final notes of "Salty Dog". I’ve seen Flogging Molly a half dozen times now and have never left a show wanting.

Anti-Flag and Skinny Lister were also on the bill, and it was my first time seeing both bands. They did not disappoint. Anti-Flag’s politically-driven punk songs had the crowd fired up for the first circle pits of the night. Their set included a mashup of classic punk covers from bands such as The Kinks, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and Rancid. The UK’s Skinny Lister opened the show with their shanty punk style and set the pace for the rest of the night.

Flogging Molly's winter tour continues stateside through March 19.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos. Michael is also a regular vendor at the Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market and can be found selling his prints at a variety of local markets.
