Experience Hendrix Rolls Into Red Bank

Experience Hendrix stopped in Red Bank at the Count Basie Center’s Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre last week as part of this year’s 27-date tour. The event features an all-star lineup celebrating the music and legacy of the legendary Jimi Hendrix. On this night the crowd was treated to stellar performances from Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Zakk Wylde, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Samantha Fish, Mato Nanji, Devon Allman, Ally Venable, Noah Hunt, Henri Brown, Orlando Wright, Sam Bryant, Tony Beard, Kevin McCormick, and Dylan Triplett.

The setlist featured Hendrix’s greatest hits, and you could see how influential the guitar god was on these performers as they put their heart and soul into these songs. Eric Johnson and Mato Nanji were excellent as usual and their styles are a great match for covering Hendrix. I was also really impressed with Christone Ingram, Samantha Fish, and Ally Venable, all of whom I was seeing for the first time. And Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Noah Hunt closed the night with excellent covers of “Gypsy Eyes”, “Come On”, and a “Voodoo Child” medley which allowed Shepherd to showcase his incredible guitar skills.

But the highlight of the night was Zakk Wylde’s amazing performance of “Purple Haze”. The Ozzy Osborne guitarist and leader of Black Label Society is know for his heavy metal shredding, and easily blended that with Jimi’s signature sound. He spent most of the song out in the crowd and showed off some impressive guitar tricks. This alone was worth the price of admission.

The Experience Hendrix Tour wraps up in Atlanta on April 12. If you missed catching it this year, I highly recommend grabbing tickets next time. And as always, go check out all the amazing music from these artists wherever you stream your music.
