Everclear Headlines a Night of ‘90s Rock Nostalgia at Asbury Lanes

This year has been very nostalgic as I have covered numerous bands that made up the soundtrack of my early twenties. And on a chilly autumn night in Asbury Park, that trend continued. Everclear, Marcy Playground, and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack arrived at the Jersey Shore and treated the sold out Asbury Lanes crowd to a great night of classic alternative rock.

Everclear headlined the night and reminded us why they are one of the more popular alternative rock acts since debuting thirty years ago. Art Alexakis gave an energetic and emotional performance, and the set featured many of their biggest hits including “Santa Monica”, “Father of Mine”, '“Heroin Girl”, and “Wonderful”. I even got to see one of my personal favorites “AM Radio”.

Marcy Playground, best known for their mega hit “Sex and Candy”, gave an excellent performance in the heart of the lineup showing why they are not a one hit wonder. “Pigeon Farm” and “Punk Rock Superstar” were two standouts for me, and they were joined by Jimi Haha for “Sherry Fraser”.

Jimmie’s Chicken Shack kicked off the night and nearly stole the show. They “raw dogged” through their seven song set and closed it out with two of their best known singles, “High” and “Do Right”. I hadn’t seen them since they played HFStivals back in the day, and they did not dissapoint.

This tour wraps up on November 1, and it is definitely worth seeing. And as always, be sure to check out all three bands wherever you stream your music.
