Blistering Riffs and Haunting Vocals: Smashing Pumpkins at Their Best

Photography & Review by @stevecerf

Smashing Pumpkins were in full force when they hit Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Without pause, they launched straight into a high-octane rendition of “The Everlasting Gaze,” commencing a set that was nothing short of blistering from start to finish.

Billy Corgan is the man with the golden voice—one of the most distinctive and instantly recognizable in music. His voice is haunting, with a raw intensity, and was incredibly in tune. Founding member James Iha is one of those great, great guitar gods. He’s unassuming yet shreds monster riffs in the most laid-back manner. Jack Bates was in fine form on bass, while original band member Jimmy Chamberlin came out steaming on drums. Together, these two form one of the most incredible rhythm sections around. A recent addition to the 2024 tour is KiKi Wong, who played with the ferocity of ten thousand heartbeats, barreling ahead at punk speed. An explosive performance to see and hear.

There isn’t a lot of chit-chat at a Smashing Pumpkins concert. The focus is solely on the music. The band was electric—guitars shredding, drums pounding—you could feel each note vibrating through your body. From guitar solos to vocals to drums, the show was packed with jaw-dropping moments.
