Bleachers Bring Shadow To The City Back to Asbury Park In Triumphant Return!

Jack Antonoff is no stranger to embracing his Jersey roots and last weekend his Shadow of The City festival made an electrifying return to the Stone Pony summerstage! After releasing a new record and coming off a recent tour, Antonoff decided to end his tour with a dazzling hometown show that not only showcased his truly excellent band Bleachers but also highlighted several noteworthy acts as well. The lineup consisted of fellow support act Samia, labelmates the alt-pop act The Japanese House, pop-punk favorites The Wonder Years and up and comers such as the riveting singer-songwriter Bartees Strange and emerging acts indie pop artist Grace Ives and NYC punk oufit Been Stellar. Each act brought something diverse and unique to the table and the mix of genres and sounds was utterly refreshing and very much welcome. While each act was engaging to watch, some of the festival’s many highlights came in the form of Bartee Strange’s set which despite being cut short was a strong showing of his passionate, genre-fluid and high-energy style which resonated greatly with the audience.

Samia whose been on the rise having toured with Bleachers as direct support along with supporting her recent record Honey, more than captivated audiences with her intimate and cathartic style of indie-pop and rock and her sense of joy and sincerity shined throughout her set. The Wonder Years brought a surprising yet welcome burst of energy and flair with their pop punk style and frontman Dan Campbell dominated the stage with his trademark charisma and vulnerability, both satisfying established fans and earning some new ones in the process. Fellow Dirty Hit artists The Japanese House nearly stole the show with their heartfelt, vibrant and soulful set that showcased their tremendous songwriting and musicianship. Of course, Bleachers themselves were a large draw here and their full throttle, joy-filled and no holds barred performance was a sheer triumph from start to finish with Antonoff and company in truly extraordinary form throughout highlighting their seamless chemistry and pure artistry. With a career full of highs such as producing for top tier artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde, Antonoff is undeniably busy but it’s a testament to his love and commitment to his fanbase and homestate that he once again decided to bring Shadow of the City back to Asbury and this 6th edition of the festival was an accomplished and undeniably staggering feat of genuine talent coming together.

Overall Shadow of The City’s return to Asbury was an across the board triumph and a captivating showcase of Jersey talent to the fullest. Antonoff has more than established his credibility as an artist and producer but his greatest achievement may very well be how he highlights his home state and fellow artists through Shadow of The City.
