Around the corner and Over the Moon

It’s rainy nights like these. As hot as it is humid. With no end. You drop in a local venue and remember why you go out on nights like these.
Inside, the air conditioner fights, without break, against a ceaseless opening and closing of the main door. The air is cold only if you stop and be still, but you can’t stop. You don’t want to sit.
There is something going on here.
There are bands playing. It’s a small room, a small gig, a local gig - filled with friends, family, and other band members. It’s a first gig. A second gig. A hundredth gig. I don’t know. It is just as hot for the opener as it is for the headliner.
Three bands –
Kris Kunz – Solo acoustic, honest, soulful
Eighty – Band, hidden behind the paper but slowly emerged to let us in
Kid Mo – Band, In your face, they have something to say

Over the Moon Art Studios – art studio / school by day, alt music club, DIY at night. You’d do yourself a favor by stopping by.
There is a scene growing there, and it is worth a real look.
It’s rainy nights like these. As hot as it is humid. And the bands are cooking, and they are learning their craft.
And they need you
As much
As you need them.
It’s rainy nights like these.

Born from an existential argument between Modernists and Postmodernists, I have found my home with the post-punks and those who love a good slice of pizza. I live in a world of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and the ever-elusive Decisive Moment. Punctum and Studium aside, I like to take photographs of people and things to see how they look photographed. While I miss both CBGBs and a cool place to bowl in Asbury Park, Punk is still whatever we made it to be. The Future is Unwritten, and I owe it all to Mr. Bradley and Mr. Martin. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (and Women) and ask the Little Prince for his thoughts. Sometimes, I'm On the Road, but if it weren’t for the honor of the thing, I’d just as well walk. My loving wife supports this albatross of an obsession, and my kids put up with me well. BA, MFA, M.Ed., BCEA, Nikon, FUJI, Tri-X.
